During the past few years, we have seen an unprecedented boom in parents choosing to bring their kids home to learn. In response to parents still needing places for their kids, to have friends, and allow parents the time to earn an income, learning centers cropped up everywhere. It seemed that these wonderful moms and educators were thrust into the capitalist model of competition. But the fact is that each one of these unique centers is needed and serves a unique population.

In January, 2022, the NewEdge Endowment for Alternatives in Education was created to support kids in getting the right education for them. The purpose of the fund is to make sure that there are learning centers open, with good staff and facilitators, ready to receive students who are ready for a change from the traditional school structure. Our goal is to raise 3 million dollars in our first round of fundraising.

The revenue generated from this endowment will go to three arms:

1. Scholarships for any kid who is stuck in the traditional system because they can’t afford tuition.

2. Stipends for quality facilitators to create opportunities for learning. Teachers deserve to earn a living wage.

3. Facilities support: If there is a site based learning center, we support your continued success in that site. If your cashflow runs short of expenses, we will keep you open for business.

Like our pedagogy, our application process is also inside out - we want to support those we feel connected with. Of course we need information about who you are and your coordinates, (here is the link to the FAFSA form) but we want to get to know you through essay, conversation, and whenever possible, site visits. We want to talk to alumni or friends. We want to see who you are in the community.

When funds are granted, you become a member of our O’hana, our family. We want to hear your stories, successes, and challenges. We want to see how our future funds are impacting our kids, through letters, pictures, events, and cross learning center collaborations. You will be asked to submit monthly, multimedia reports, so that we can show our generous benefactors the impact of their generosity.
